It's firefly season!
Spend an evening observing fireflies & become a citizen scientist in the process!

Counting fireflies has been a classic summer evening activity for generations. These beloved blinking beetles can add a magical touch to a warm night in your backyard. Unfortunately, in some parts of North America the firefly population seems to be fading.

For the past few years, the Firefly Watch project has brought citizens into the process of tracking fireflies in order to learn more about where fireflies are and how populations are changing. This project, which is a joint venture between Mass Audubon and researchers at Tufts University, asks people to go out in their yard and observe firefly activity — including blinking patterns —  and report their findings.
